Cynthia Whitaker

Cynthia is an award winning director and actress who has been working with students for over twenty-five years. She received her B.A. In Theatre from Centenary College, where she received the Kennedy Center Medallion of Excellence for Outstanding College Actress in the prestigious Ire e Ryan Drama Competition. In addition, she received The Amoco Drama Award in College Acting, the National Society of Arts and Letters National Scholarship, and was a member of the Maroon Jackets and Chi Omega. She received her B.A. In Education from LSUS and has taught every age group, from elementary and middle school at Evangel Christian Academy. In addition, she was the first Caddo Parish Talented Program high school drama director. She is a member of Who's Who Among American Teachers. She has received four SB Memory Awards for Best Director and Best Costumer in local theatre, and she and her brother, Emmy Award winning writer, Rick Hawkins, were the only brother and sister to win the Times Drama Award for Best Actor/Actress. She is the proud founder of The Academy of Children's Theatre. She is a member of the Louisiana state board of Educational Theatre and has been a national adjudicator in costuming at the International Thespian Society tournament at the University of Nebraska. She has received Outstanding Production, Outstanding Musical Performance, and Outstanding Direction, at the Disney Broadway Junior Theatre Festival, and directed the world premiere of {Thoroughly Modern Millie, Jr.} for the Disney corporation and Music Theatre International. She received the USA Today Awards for directing the Outstanding High School Musical in Louisiana. She has directed over twenty community theatre productions, and {Footloose} marks her fiftieth production, either in acting, directing, or costuming. She was featured in the television series {Mama's Family}, and has performed at the Scott Theatre, Union Theatre, and the Kennedy Center. She is a member of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and the International Thespian Society. She is married to Joesph Whitaker, and has two children, Lily and Carter.
